Digital Poster: My Health

Tell students that the topic for the lesson is healthy habits.

Begin with a "This or That" timed pair discussion. Assign one person in each pair to answer odd questions and the other partner to answer even questions. Use a timer, and each member of the pair must speak continuously for two (or more) minutes. See attachment for modification. Project the handout or print for pairs.

To activate prior vocabulary related to daily routines and health, brainstorm with students 10 healthy and unhealthy habits. You can share a Google Doc, Google Slide, or use a whiteboard.

Then have students mingle in a "Find someone who..." activity. Model how to ask the questions and answers ("Do you eat... Yes, I do/No I don't).

Distribute the handout "How much or how many?" Have students circle what they think is correct for each sentence - "how much" or "how many." Go over their choices and explain where there are errors. 

Explain count nouns v. noncount nouns.

The have students write on their handout the rule for much v. many: 

Many + plural count 

many people

many students

many schools

Much + plural noncount noun

Much water

Much air

Much exercise

Allow student to interview another classmate, asking the questions and giving full sentences in response. Model.

Assign pairs or small groups to write How much / How many questions for each of the following:

1. Hours of sleep
2. Glasses of water
3. Exercise
4. Alcohol
5. Fruit
6. Vegetables
7. Screentime
8. Steps in a day

Provide corrections on the grammar.

Then assign the pairs or groups to search online to find the answers to their questions (e.g., How many glasses of water do I need to drink each day? Google AI Overview answer: Aim for about 9 cups (2.2 liters) of fluid daily for women and 13 cups (3 liters) for men).

Have the pairs or groups report out to the entire class.

Assign the poster presentation with the following options:

Choice 1: A Day in My Healthy Life. Describe your ideal healthy day, using time phrases and routines. Include: Morning, afternoon, evening habits. Meals, exercise, relaxation. A final reflection: “This is what I want to do more often.”

Choice 2: Comparing Health Around the World. Choose a country (your own or another) and describe one unique health practice, food, or tradition. Include: What it is, Why it’s healthy, How it’s similar or different from the U.S.

Choice 3: What Health Means to Me. A reflective presentation connecting health to your personal life. Include what “being healthy” means to you and one goal they have for your health.

Choice 4: Other Health-Related Topic, such as your recommended best ways to handle stress

Have students draft their writing and submit for feedback.

Then demonstrate how to use chosen tech tool(s) and how to share their digital posters with you to project when they make their oral presetations.

Provide a checklist or rubric, such as the one attached, to provide formative or summative feedback. Self-Assessment: Students review their draft against the requirements:

Students will reflect on their healthy practices using target vocabulary and grammar and will be able to apply their language learning when talking to medical practitioners.
