In this activity, students learn the components of a balance sheet by working through many problems to strengthen their understanding. Students complete a balance sheet for business by entering the names of the accounts and calculating total assets, liabilities, and net worth. Students then make predictions on how the balance sheet changes when there are changes to assets and liabilities.

EconEdLink has financial literacy lessons written for K–12. They also provide access to the latest economic news and information. Choose Current Events on the "educator" menu to learn more about what is happening in the world of economics and access related lesson plans. EdReady is a personalized math and English readiness learning system that evaluates the skills of each student in the context of their goal and then provides a learning pathway to mastery. EdReady supports and accelerates math and English readiness.

This activity takes you through the steps to set up your own EdReady account and how you can use it with your students.

OTAN supports agencies wanting to try EdReady with their students. They will set up teacher accounts and needed student pathways. Students are assigned a “Goal key” that ensures the student is working in their teacher’s account. Teachers can track student progress and time on task.

In this activity, students are introduced to genetic vocabulary and learn about the inheritance patterns and genotypes of fruit flies by viewing images of fruit flies and drawing conclusions.

This activity, Wild Type and Mutant from the Exploratorium is an introduction to genetics and should be used before, Genetic Crosses, which explores the topic in greater depth. Genetic Crosses goes on to use Punnett squares to predict the results of genetic crosses and determine the genotypes of the parent flies in a particular cross.

The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics sponsors this, Take a Challenge Web site that has 80 problem-solving challenges that can be used for algebra and geometry students. The site is also available in Spanish and if you do not have Internet access at your school, look for the link at the bottom of the page to Printing the Challenges for printed copies of each challenge.
