Spelling City: Alphabetizing

Details

Activity Description

Create online lists for your students to practice alphabetizing words or if computers are not available, have them alphabetize the words using printable worksheets made from your list. This activity uses a pre-made list of colors, but feel free to create your own list.

Preparation

  1. You must register on the site (there is a free version) in order to save your word lists and access many of the site's features. You must provide your name and a valid e-mail address.
  2. You will be prompted to upgrade to a premium membership, but you may decline by selecting the link "No thanks. I'm OK with the free version for now."
  3. Check your e-mail and complete your registration by selecting the link provided.
  4. If you want to create your own lists, feel free to do that by following the "How to Creat Lists in Spelling City" document above, or you can use some of the pre-made lists at the site. This activity uses the "Colors" list.

How-To

  1. After logging in at the site, locate the list you want to use ("Find a List" tab).
  2. Select "Alphabetize" from the Learning Activities and Games List (Free Activities).
  3. You can do this as a class activity with students in groups to see which team can organize the list properly first.
  4. If you are in a lab setting individual students can work independently on word lists of their choice.
  5. If computers are not available to students, then treat this a s a printable and pass out to students to complete.
