PlayPosit: Adding Questions to Your Choice of Videos

Activity Description

PlayPosit is the old EduCanon. It helps you take a video of your choice and add questions for students to answer. It has all the advantages of videos (stop, rewind, re-watch, self-paced) as well as the opportunity to re-mediate student learning with specific feedback for wrong answers.

The free account allows you to create bulbs' (videos in which you have added questions), have 1 GB of storage, and monitor your students. There is a premium account (pay) that allows a wide variety of questions types and lets you use a large bank of already created video bulbs.

While we would like to have a "pre-created" activity for you to use in class, the nature of this tool does not allow us to share activities unless we have a paid account, which we do not. But we feel it is a very valuable tool, so we are including it here in Teaching with Technology with instructions on how to use it and a completed example put together by the site creators.

Preparation

  1. Create a Teacher account at eduCanon .
  2. Watch the tutorials on how to add your video .
  3. Watch the sample bulbs so you see how eduCanon works. Here are some samples: How Wolves Change Rivers and the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake
  4. Add a classroom.
  5. Watch your video and determine the questions you want to ask and where they will appear in the video.
  6. Watch the video and design the bulb (video with questions) as you go.
  7. Assign your class to your video bulb.
  8. Download and print the instructions for students on how to sign-up on eduCanon and find your class. (See Example Document - Student Instructions for Using eduCanon, above)

Teacher Tips

  • Keep videos short and focused for lower-level learners.
  • Insert questions every few minutes to maintain engagement.
  • Use immediate feedback to reinforce learning.
  • Encourage students to replay difficult sections without embarrassment.
