Abstract:
This report details a GAO examination of the federal support for adult English language programs. GAO analyzed Census and enrollment data related to to adult English language learning, reviewed the literature, conducted interviews with federal and state officials, and visited programs in 4 states. GAO recommends that Education work with HHS, Labor, and other agencies to develop coordinated approaches for sharing information and planning and conducting research.
