Continuous Improvement Plan (CIP)

The Continuous Improvement Plan (CIP)* offers agencies consolidated guidance and resources to ensure successful implementation of performance goals. By setting SMART goals within their CIP, agencies can improve student outcomes by providing related professional development to instructors and other relevant personnel; supporting implementation of staff’s new knowledge and skills; and monitoring change in teacher/staff practice and the impact on student outcomes.

These online events discuss the Continuous Improvement Plan, provides information for new and returning agencies, and includes office hours where in order to assist agencies with their CIP. 

CIP sessions are scheduled and announced by OTAN. They will appear on the CA Adult Education Professional Development site when registration is opened.

OTAN Certificates of Attendance are not given for these events.

The following sessions were scheduled in 2022/23 FY. Similar descriptions were used as a template for 2023/24

CIP 1: Process and Requirements

This is a California Department of Education / Adult Education Office sponsored event.

Join this webinar to learn more about the CIP plan due April 30th for all WIOA agencies.

Dr. Carolyn Zachry, director of the CDE AEO, will provide a high level review of the CIP document, requirements, due dates and answer questions from the field.

This is the first in a series of three sessions. The next two sessions are: 

  1. "CIP: It’s Not Too Early to Think About the 2022-23 Continuous Improvement Plan!" - March 18, 2022

  2. "CIP: Dive Deep into the Continuous Improvement Plan!" - March 25, 2022.

Additional open virtual meetings will be scheduled and available for California Adult Education agencies that want specific guidance or feedback on their 2022-23 agency CIP goal prior to submission. Please register early - agency representatives will be able to ask questions, get feedback, and receive support for their CIP planning and review process. CIP 2: It’s Not Too Early to Think About the 2022-23 Continuous Improvement Plan!

Join this 1-hour interactive presentation and overview designed to prepare agencies for the 2022-23 Continuous Improvement Plan (CIP) goal submission (due April 30th for all WIOA agencies).

This session will cover CIP best practices, including Do’s and Don’ts, creation of relevant improvement goals and supporting activities, CIP team creation, data collection, review of the CIP plan document and evaluation rubric.

This is the second in a series of three sessions. The next (last) session is:

  1. "CIP: Dive Deep into the Continuous Improvement Plan!" - March 25, 2022.

CIP 3: Dive Deep into the Continuous Improvement Plan!

How do agencies create a meaningful and successful CIP goal? In this 1-hour interactive session, a panel of adult school administrators will review SMART goal creation, with an emphasis on keeping CIP goals simple, relevant and measurable.

A brief review of the CIP plan document, data collection, and Do’s & Don’ts will also be covered.

This is the last in the series of webinars for the Continuous Improvement Plan.

Trouble designing your school site CIP goal or need help getting started? CIP Open Office Meetings will be available online (using Zoom) for California Adult Education agencies that want specific guidance or feedback on their agency CIP goal prior to submission.

Join this CIP Resubmissions Office hour to reevaluate/rewrite or discuss your SMART goal(s) before you resubmit your CIP.

CIP Open Office Meetings will be available online (using Zoom) for California Adult Education agencies that need specific guidance or feedback on their 2022-23 agency CIP goal prior to submission or for resubmission.
