June Teachers' Digest

Web-based Class Activities and OTAN Tech Videos

Each month, OTAN publishes information about a web-based class activity. These articles are written throughout the year by adult ed teachers in the field on how they use online resources and integrate technology into general topics in their teaching. When new articles are posted, they may include a combination of resources, instructions, and/or links to other related sites. To get started, visit our Web-Based Class Activites page  on the OTAN website to read May's article on delivering interactive lectures with the tech tool Pear Deck.

This winter and spring, OTAN has published four web-based class activities on the following subjects:

  • HippoCampus (January)
  • Electronic Portfolios (February)
  • 21Things4Students to Teach Digital Literacy and Citizenship (March)
  • Accelerate Learning with EdReady (April)

At the end of the current web-based class activity, you can see the previous ten articles that have been written on a variety of tools and topics. The current and previous activities are also archived by subject area. Scroll down to the very bottom of the page for the list of subject areas.

OTAN also periodically publishes videos on its YouTube channel that preview the tools highlighted in the articles. You can find those videos in this OTAN Teaching with Technology YouTube playlist. Tech tools with corresponding articles that have been published this year include Google Classroom, Google's Applied Digital Skills, HippoCampus, and Learn360.

Web-based class activities provide a very thorough introduction to tech tools that are being used in classrooms and topics that integrate technology in a variety of ways. Please spend some time exploring the many articles that have been written for ideas on how to get started using more technology with your students!

Professional Development

Online Workshops & Webinars

OTAN offers short online workshops to meet the demands of busy adult educators. Check the California Adult Education Professional Development Calendar  and search for workshops sponsored by OTAN. Don't miss any!

OTAN's Face-to-Face Workshops

Having problems or just don't know where to start using technology in your classroom or adult education program? Use OTAN as a professional development provider! OTAN offers no-cost, three-hour, hands-on workshops to all WIOA-funded adult education programs. With a wide variety of technology topics in their arsenal, OTAN training staff will go to any WIOA-funded site with a computer lab to facilitate a hands-on workshop for adult education staff. The list of topics changes as technology changes so you are never getting outdated information. If there is a technology topic not listed that your staff needs assistance with, contact OTAN to discuss creating a new workshop to meet that need.

And remember - all OTAN workshops are free! Read more about OTAN Training and select Face-to-Face or Online workshop options to view complete workshop lists including descriptions and prerequisites.
