Adult Schools Celebrate Adult Education Week!

Posted on 04/10/2019

Floating BalloonsDuring Adult Education Week, adult schools across California plan events to celebrate the work being done at their locations and the success of their adult students who have overcome difficulties to achieve their goals and dreams.

The theme for Adult Education Week at the San Mateo Adult School this year is “Our Voices Matter.”  Staff and students from SMAS returned to Sacramento on Tuesday to participate in the annual CCAE Legislative Day, an opportunity to meet with local legislators at the Capitol to help representatives understand the impact of adult education in their communities and across the state. SMAS teachers will also take the opportunity this week to discuss the importance of advocacy with students through a specially prepared PowerPoint which has also been translated into a number of languages.

Adult Education Week is an opportunity for adult schools to open their doors to the public and showcase the programs and services they offer community members. Open houses have taken place or will take place at San Pasqual Adult School  ,Hacienda La Puente Adult Education  ,El Monte-Rosemead Adult School, and other adult ed agencies. In addition to celebrating adult education, local residents can see what their adult school has to offer and speak with students and staff who are a part of the many programs housed at the adult school to better understand the opportunities that adult education programs offer.

Adult Education Week reminds us of the close connections between adult schools and the communities in which they operate, and how adult education students are involved in bettering their lives, families, and localities academically, professionally, and holistically.
