Making Classroom Presentations More Engaging
Summertime is a great time to rethink how you present content to students and learn some new tricks and techniques in time for the start of fall classes. In his article 3 Ways to Make Classroom Presentations More Engaging, Neil Jarrett shares some ideas on the use of video and memes to better engage students in class. Use Stop-Motion Video – If you find making short videos challenging, consider using stop-motion video, which can string a series of photos together with the same effect. Or, you could shoot a video and re-create it into a stop-motion video. You can adjust the timing of the stop-motion video to present it at a certain speed, which might make more sense than just slowing down the playing of a video, which might look strange. Use your stop-motion videos with students in class or post online for students to view. Add Subtitles to Video – Adding subtitles to videos is effective in a number of ways: allowing students to listen to dialogue as they watch and connect speech to characters, spelling out difficult words, and making video accessible for students with learning disabilities.

Use Memes – Memes are very popular in popular culture, so why not bring this form of communication into the classroom to help students learn. Memes combine text with pictures to quickly convey an idea, and it might help make difficult concepts more understandable.
