OTAN Upcoming Activities – Week of 6/20

OTAN provides activities and resources to support our adult education colleagues. (All times below are PDT.)

  • The OTAN office will be closed on Monday, June 20 for Juneteenth. We will return to the office on Tuesday, June 21.

  • On Friday, June 24 at 10:00am, Yescenia Delgado will present Creating Videos using PowerPoint. Participants will learn how to create a presentation with PowerPoint, add voiceover, and export the file as a video. The videos created can be shared with students, used on a website, or referenced in a class. You can sign up for this webinar at the California Adult Education Training Calendar.

  • On Monday, June 27 at 9:00am, Alisa Takeuchi will present Starting Communication with Students. This session will demonstrate the importance of communicating with your students even before they start your class! You will learn ways to engage all students at least once per class as well as strategies for encouraging students to participate in class.   • On Tuesday, June 28 at 9:00am, Alisa Takeuchi will present Building Community. This session will build communication skills and techniques to use with students. Participants will be introduced to communication ideas that build a solid community within and beyond a classroom setting.  You can sign up for this webinar at the California Adult Education Training Calendar.

  • On Tuesday, June 28 at 12:00pm, OTAN and CAEP-TAP will present Canvas: Your Choice for Learner Access & Equity. A partnership called the California Distance Learning Cooperative (CDLC) is offering all adult education providers in California the opportunity to have their own instance of Canvas. This informational session will give administrators a basic understanding of what CDLC membership can provide their agency, learners, and teachers.   • On Wednesday, June 29 at 1:00pm (rescheduled from June 24), Diana Vera Alba will present Accessibility Basics Using Google Slides. This session will describe how to create Google Slides as accessible files online using items with Slides, add-ons, and other available tools, including using templates, accessible and copyright-free images, audio and video, fonts, and more.
