Upcoming OTAN Activities to Support Adult Educators – Week of 12/06

OTAN provides resources for our adult education colleagues who are teaching and supporting their learners remotely. (All times below are PST.)

  • December 6 to 12 is Computer Science Education Week. Read our OTAN news item to learn more about the week and find resources to get your students started with learning computer science.

  • Visit OTAN's COVID-19 Field Support webpage with relevant information for teachers, students, and administrators: COVID-19 Field Support

  • OTAN Office Hours provide an opportunity to ask more detailed questions and get support on specific tools to use with students. You can sign up for these OTAN Office Hours at the California Adult Education Training Calendar:

    • Monday, December 6 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm
    • Friday, December 10 from 10:00am to 12:00noon
  • On Monday at 12:00pm, Penny Pearson will present Understanding How to Design Using a Canvas Custom Template. This workshop will introduce the Canvas Custom Template available to instructors in the California Distance Learning Cooperative (CDLC), how to personalize the template, and create content, assignments, quizzes using Canvas tools.   • On Thursday at 9:30am, Melinda Holt will present Google Tips Series: Sheets. This hands-on workshop will start with a brief overview of Google Forms followed by a dive into Sheets where attendees will use simple filters as well as queries, complete simple and custom conditional formatting, and create and build basic to complex functions (aka formulas).   • On Friday at 9:00am, Penny Pearson will present Organize Collaborative Learning, Performance-based Teaching, and Student Engagement in Canvas. This training primarily for CDLC instructors will focus on designing your Canvas courses to take advantage of tools that will streamline your workflow, allow you to spend more time teaching and engaging with your students, as well as foster connections with students and their families.   • On Friday at 1:00pm, Michelle Jensen will present the December OTAN Tech Talk, Teaching Made Easier with Google Keep. This OTAN Tech Talk will discuss how both teachers and students can use Google Keep to help make their lessons (and learning) engaging and easy!   • The TDLS 2022 Call for Proposals is open through Friday, December 10! Read our news item for more information and consider submitting a proposal by the end of the week!
