In partnership with CASAS and with the support of the Adult Education Office at the California Department of Education, OTAN is proud to announce the official opening of the California EL Civics Exchange. The Exchange is a brand-new repository for original EL Civics instructional materials created by California WIOA, Title II: AEFLA/EL Civics agencies. EL Civics coordinators and teachers have requested a means of sharing EL Civics instructional materials with colleagues in the field for a number of years, and the Exchange is an effort a few years in the making to facilitate this ability to share materials. Any visitor to the site, located at https://elcivics.otan.us/, will be able to access materials, and a California WIOA adult educator who first creates an account will be able to submit materials for review to be included on the Exchange.

Materials submitted on the EL Civics Exchange are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial Share Alike (CC-BY-NC-SA) use. They are intended for WIOA agencies to share with appropriate credit to the authoring agency. In addition, these materials are accessible according to requirements of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act (amended in 1998) and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 recommendations. When an agency submits materials, CASAS will review the content according to a detailed rubric, and OTAN will review the materials to ensure they meet accessibility requirements.

CASAS and OTAN staff presented the details of the EL Civics Exchange at the recent CASAS Summer Institute. You can review the PowerPoint slides from that presentation, and if you registered for the Summer Institute, you can log into the conference Whova app to watch the session recording. If you have questions, when you are on any page of the Exchange, you can enter feedback using the green Feedback button. You can also email CASAS at elcivics@casas.org or OTAN at support@otan.us.

We look forward to adult educators learning about the EL Civics Exchange and submitting materials for review that can be shared with our colleagues in the field.
