Each year, the California Adult Education Students Succeed program recognizes the hard work that adult education students have completed in the pursuit of their personal, academic, and professional goals and aspirations. OTAN is happy to share the results from the many nominations submitted this year for recognition of the wonderful accomplishments by students during their time in adult education programs across the state.

Reviewers used a five-point rubric to review each nomination, and the following students achieved the minimum score for recognition:

  • Alisa Avdalyan, Clovis Adult Education
  • Kelli Barry, Castro Valley Adult and Career Education
  • Eric Burke, San Diego College of Continuing Education
  • Kenneth Burtis, Highlands Community Charter and Technical Schools
  • Grasiela Carranza, Mt. Diablo Adult Education
  • Jaime Castro, Mt. San Antonio College, ESL Program
  • Evelia Cerna, Corona-Norco Adult School
  • Amy Chan, Charles A. Jones Career and Education Center
  • Jessie Cumberbatch, Fontana Adult School

  • Maria Felix Suarez, LAUSD DACE Harbor Occupational Center

Among this group of outstanding students, there were two students who achieved the highest scores:

  • Miami Abdulal, Corona-Norco Adult School
  • America Moreno, Torrance Adult School

OTAN will produce video stories of Miami and America’s adult education stories in the coming months, and ACSA will also honor them at its annual 2021 Every Student Succeeding event in the fall.

OTAN is currently gathering stories and photos from each student to share on the Adult Education Students Succeed website. As we gather those stories, we will share them with you in the coming weeks. In the meantime, we invite you watch the videos of our 2020 honorees Crystal Espinoza and Logan Hindle.

Congratulations again to all of our Students Succeed honorees! (And watch for our #AdultEducation #MondayMotivation social media posts that highlight previous Students Succeed honorees!)
