Upcoming OTAN Activities to Support Adult Educators – Week of 9/21

Posted on 09/18/2020

OTAN has scheduled a number of online webinars and Office Hours for our adult education colleagues who are teaching and supporting their learners remotely. (All times below are PDT.)

  • Visit OTAN's COVID-19 Field Support webpage that we are continually updating with relevant information for teachers, students, and administrators: COVID-19 Field Support

  • OTAN Office Hours provide an opportunity to ask more detailed questions and get support on specific tools to use with students. You can sign up for these OTAN Office Hours at the California Adult Education Training Calendar:

    • Tuesday, September 22 from 4:00 to 5:00pm

    • There will be no Thursday Office Hour – We will be busy helping with CDE's New Administrator Training that day!

  • National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week is September 20 to 26 – Visit the COABE website for more information!

  • On Monday at 1:00pm, Alisa Takeuchi will begin the Bitmoji Classroom Series. In this 3-part series, participants will be introduced to Bitmoji, a free app that creates a cartoon image of a person, as well as how to create their own Bitmoji classroom. Participants will be introduced to Bitmojis, using them in their classroom, and how to install the Bitmoji Chrome Extension to their Google account. You can sign up for this webinar at the California Adult Education Training Calendar.

  • On Thursday at 1:00pm, CASAS will present Recording Distance Learning in TOPSpro Enterprise. Capture the attendance hours properly in TOPSpro Enterprise (TE). This session builds on Jay Wright's (CASAS) recent presentation about Considerations (September 3). You can sign up for this webinar at the California Adult Education Training Calendar.

  • On Friday at 10:00am, Blair Roy will host Office Hours for Maximizing Moodle. The many features and resources available in Moodle (which OTAN upgraded over the summer) can be daunting to new users. Join us to get one-on-one support, help, suggestions and just plain old encouragement in using Moodle with learners. Attending teachers will drive the session with their questions and needs. You can sign up for these Office Hours at the California Adult Education Training Calendar.

  • On Friday at 11:00am, Jaemi Nash and Aimee Jasa will present Using Technology for Student Outreach - Tech Flips & Flops. Join Tamalpais and Petaluma Adult School staff for a discussion on technology best practices and lessons learned for student outreach, communication, and accessing remote learning,  to share what has worked and what has flopped in efforts to engage adult learners in remote learning. You can sign up for this webinar at the California Adult Education Training Calendar.
