Upcoming OTAN Activities to Support Adult Educators – Week of 8/31

Posted on 08/28/2020

OTAN has scheduled a number of online webinars and Office Hours for our adult education colleagues who are teaching and supporting their learners remotely. (All times below are PDT.)

  • Visit OTAN's COVID-19 Field Support webpage that we are continually updating with relevant information for teachers, students, and administrators: COVID-19 Field Support

  • OTAN Office Hours provide an opportunity to ask more detailed questions and get support on specific tools to use with students. You can sign up for these OTAN Office Hours at the California Adult Education Training Calendar:

    • Tuesday, September 1 from 4:00 to 5:00pm

    • Thursday, September 3 from 10:00 to 11:00am

  • On Tuesday at 1:00pm, Melinda Holt will present Google Sites: The Unveiling. This webinar will be the last part of the "Google Sites: 1, 2, 3..." series. All those who attended the series and created a Site will be given the opportunity to unveil the Site that they created. Participants will be able to give each other constructive critiques. All visitors are welcome! You can sign up for this webinar at the California Adult Education Training Calendar.

  • On Thursday at 1:00pm, CASAS and OTAN will present Fall 2020: Considerations When Implementing Distance Learning. With schools and colleges still closed, agencies are relying on distance learning implementation, remote assessment, and lots and lots and lots of creative improvisation! This session revisits some of the key issues presented by OTAN and CASAS over the last several months - remote testing, informal placement, creating classes, determining how to count distance learning instructional hours, recording all the activity in TOPSPro Enterprise - that have continued to present challenges. You can sign up for this webinar at the California Adult Education Training Calendar.

  • On Friday at 10:00am, Ryan Detwiler will present 10 Interactive Activities for Live Online Classes. Are you looking for engaging ideas for your live online classes in the fall? Attend this presentation to discover several interactive communicative activities that you can adapt for your online (synchronous) classes. Skill areas covered include listening, conversation/fluency-building, grammar, vocabulary, reading & writing. This session is for all levels. You can sign up for this webinar at the California Adult Education Training Calendar.

  • On Friday at 10:00am, Blair Roy and Susan Coulter will host Office Hours for Maximizing Moodle. The many features and resources available in Moodle (which OTAN upgraded over the summer) can be daunting to new users. Join us to get one-on-one support, help, suggestions and just plain old encouragement in using Moodle with learners. Attending teachers will drive the session with their questions and needs. You can sign up for these Office Hours at the California Adult Education Training Calendar.
