Upcoming OTAN Activities to Support Adult Educators – Week of 7/13

OTAN has scheduled a number of online webinars and Office Hours for our adult education colleagues who are continuing to teach and support their learners. (All times below are PDT.)

OTAN Office Hours provide an opportunity to ask more detailed questions and get support on specific tools to use with students. You can sign up for these OTAN Office Hours at the California Adult Education Training Calendar:

On Monday at 9:00am, Melinda Holt will present Google Slides. Google Slides is a presentation app that can do so much more than present. The free online app allows users to create presentations, collaborate in real-time, create group projects, share dynamic materials (like e-books), and even use it as a publishing tool for postcards, flyers, and booklets! On Monday at 1:00pm, Jennifer Gagliardi will present Using YouTube in Adult Education. YouTube has become a powerful educational tool and is also a free, video hosting tool to boot! Educators can post the videos they have created, and their students will have access to the videos 24/7 - anytime and on almost any device. This webinar series (today is Session 4) will cover YouTube topics from the basics like searching YouTube for videos, to intermediate topics like creating a channel and uploading videos. On Wednesday at 10:00am, Blair Roy and Susan Coulter will host Office Hours for Maximizing Moodle. The many features and resources available in Moodle can be daunting to new users. Join us to get one-on-one support, help, suggestions and just plain old encouragement in using Moodle with learners. Attending teachers will drive the session with their questions and needs. On Wednesday at 1:00pm, Anthony Burik will present Tech Tools for Assessment. In this three-part series, we look at tech tools that integrate assessment into online classes. We will learn about and practice with assessment tools in different contexts that reach learners on all types of devices, including questionnaires, tools that can be used to present and assess simultaneously, and tools used for formative and summative assessment. On Thursday at 1:00pm, Monica Espinoza will present Google Forms. Google Forms is a tool that allows collecting information from users via a personalized survey or quiz. This three-part webinar series (today is Session 3) will cover creating a form and a quiz, different questions types, customizing themes, adding media to questions, requiring or not requiring questions, and more. Some "do's and don'ts" for using Google Forms in an online learning setting will also be covered. You can sign up for this webinar at the California Adult Education Training Calendar.
On Friday at 10:00am, Diana Vera-Alba will present Teaching with Free Online Tech Tools. In this webinar, participants will learn about great free online resources that they can use both in a face-to-face class as well as an online course. You will learn about free classroom resources including Open Educational Resources (OERs) and online apps that can be used on a computer or smart phone.
