Upcoming OTAN Activities to Support Adult Educators – Week of 7/6

OTAN has scheduled a number of online webinars and Office Hours for our adult education colleagues who are continuing to teach and support their learners. (All times below are PDT.)

• OTAN Office Hours provide an opportunity to ask more detailed questions and get support on specific tools to use with students. You can sign up for these OTAN Office Hours at the California Adult Education Training Calendar:

  • Tuesday, July 7 from 4:00 to 5:00pm

  • Thursday, July 9 from 10:00 to 11:00am

• On Tuesday at 9:00am, Melinda Holt will present Google Slides. Google Slides is a presentation app that can do so much more than present. The free online app allows users to create presentations, collaborate in real-time, create group projects, share dynamic materials (like e-books), and even use it as a publishing tool for postcards, flyers, and booklets! • On Tuesday at 1:00pm, OTAN will present Using YouTube in Adult Education. YouTube has become a powerful educational tool and is also a free video hosting tool to boot! Educators can post the videos they have created, and their students will have access to the videos 24/7 - anytime and on almost any device. This webinar series (today is Session 3) will cover YouTube topics from the basics like searching YouTube for videos, to intermediate topics like creating a channel and uploading videos. • On Thursday at 1:00pm, Monica Espinoza will present Google Forms. Google Forms is a tool that allows collecting information from users via a personalized survey or quiz. This 3-part webinar series (today is session 2) will cover creating a form and a quiz, different questions types, customizing themes, adding media to questions, requiring or not requiring questions, and more. Some "do's and don'ts" for using Google Forms in an online learning setting will also be covered. You can sign up for this webinar at the California Adult Education Training Calendar.

• On Friday at 1:00pm, Jennifer West will present What is Andragogy in Adult Education? This webinar will answer the question represented in the title as well as the purpose of andragogy. The Six Core Principles of Andragogy will be reviewed as well as the why and how within current classroom settings. Successful classroom examples will also be shared with a focus on adult Correctional Education. The presentation will end with how to create a community of learning based on andragogy.
