Upcoming OTAN Activities to Support Adult Educators – Week of 6/29

Posted on 06/26/2020

OTAN has scheduled a number of online webinars and Office Hours for our adult education colleagues who are continuing to teach and support their learners. (All times below are PDT.)

  • Visit OTAN’s COVID-19 Field Support webpage that we are continually updating with relevant information for teachers, students, and administrators: COVID-19 Field Support

  • OTAN Office Hours provide an opportunity to ask more detailed questions and get support on specific tools to use with students. You can sign up for these OTAN Office Hours at the California Adult Education Training Calendar (and please note our revised schedule):

    • Tuesday, June 30 from 4:00 to 5:00pm

    • Thursday, July 2 from 10:00 to 11:00am

  • On Monday at 2:00pm, Martha Clayton will present Project Based Online Learning. Project Based Learning (PBL) is a fantastic model for student-centered learning for distance modalities as these environments offer dynamic flexibility in time and space which are limited in the face-to-face classroom. However, Project Based Online Learning (PBOL) depends on teacher ability to design high-quality online content. This webinar will examine a lesson structure model, example unit, tools for supporting PBOL, challenges and solutions, and Q&A. You can sign up for this webinar at the California Adult Education Training Calendar.

  • On Tuesday at 9:00am, Melinda Holt will present Google Docs. Google Docs is more than just a text editor. Different settings, tools, and add-ons within Google Docs allow users to create interactive documents, share and collaborate with others, complete research from within, voice type, translate, and create drawings. You can sign up for this webinar at the California Adult Education Training Calendar.

  • On Tuesday at 1:00pm, Alisa Takeuchi will present Using YouTube in Adult Education. YouTube has become a powerful educational tool and is also a free, video hosting tool to boot! Educators can post the videos they have created, and their students will have access to the videos 24/7 - anytime and on almost any device. This webinar series (today is Session 2) will cover YouTube topics from the basics like searching YouTube for videos, to intermediate topics like creating a channel and uploading videos. You can sign up for this webinar at the California Adult Education Training Calendar.

  • On Thursday at 1:00pm, Monica Espinoza will present Google Forms. Google Forms is a tool that allows collecting information from users via a personalized survey or quiz. This 3-part webinar series will cover creating a form and a quiz, different questions types, customizing themes, adding media to questions, requiring or not requiring questions, and more. Some "do's and don'ts" for using Google Forms in an online learning setting will also be covered. You can sign up for this webinar at the California Adult Education Training Calendar.

  • OTAN will be closed on Friday, July 3 for Independence Day, and back on Monday, July 6.
