Upcoming OTAN Activities to Support Adult Educators – Week of 6/22

Posted on 06/19/2020

OTAN has scheduled a number of online webinars and Office Hours for our adult education colleagues who are continuing to teach and support their learners. (All times below are PDT.)

  • Visit OTAN’s COVID-19 Field Support webpage that we are continually updating with relevant information for teachers, students, and administrators: COVID-19 Field Support

  • OTAN Office Hours provide an opportunity to ask more detailed questions and get support on specific tools to use with students. You can sign up for these OTAN Office Hours at the California Adult Education Training Calendar (and please note our revised schedule)

    • Tuesday, June 23 from 4:00 to 5:00pm

    • Thursday, June 25 from 10:00 to 11:00am

  • On Tuesday at 9:00am, Melinda Holt will present Google Docs. Google Docs is more than just a text editor. Different settings, tools, and add-ons within Google Docs allow users to create interactive documents, share and collaborate with others, complete research from within, voice type, translate, and create drawings. You can sign up for this webinar at the California Adult Education Training Calendar.

  • On Wednesday at 10:00am, Blair Roy and Susan Coulter will host Office Hours for Maximizing Moodle. The many features and resources available in Moodle can be daunting to new users. Join us to get one-on-one support, help, suggestions and just plain old encouragement in using Moodle with learners. Attending teachers will drive the session with their questions and needs. You can sign up for these Office Hours at the California Adult Education Training Calendar.

  • On Wednesday at 1:00pm, Alisa Takeuchi will present Screencastify – Part 4. Those who attended the three previous webinars created an account, made some screencasts, and are familiar with the tools... what now?! This hands-on webinar will walk you through how to use screencasts for your students via Gmail, Google Docs, and Google Forms. You will be amazed at how easy it is to connect your students to a video you've created. You can sign up for this webinar at the California Adult Education Training Calendar.

  • On Thursday at 10:00am, Trish Jetson will present Google Sites: Building 1, 2, 3. This webinar is designed to illustrate how to build a website to showcase a body of work and disseminate information for academic or professional purposes using the resources and skills you already have. Google Sites will be the focus and all attendees will be shown how trying can lead to doing and getting it done! You can sign up for this webinar at the California Adult Education Training Calendar.

  • On Thursday at 1:00pm, Alisa Takeuchi will present Using YouTube in Adult Education. YouTube has become a powerful educational tool and is also a free, video hosting tool to boot!  Educators can post the videos they have created, and their students will have access to the videos 24/7 - anytime and on almost any device. This webinar series will cover YouTube topics from the basics like searching YouTube for videos, to intermediate topics like creating a channel and uploading videos. You can sign up for this webinar at the California Adult Education Training Calendar.

  • On Friday at 10:00am, Marci England will present Canva! Easy and Free Web-based Graphic Design. Canva is a simple, easy, free design tool for everyone at your school. Learn how to create quick, collaborative designs for school marketing, social media, classrooms, websites, and more. Attendees will be shown how to use and customize templates and personalize designs. Attendees will also explore the use of Canva as a technology-based learning tool in the online classroom. You can sign up for this webinar at the California Adult Education Training Calendar.

  • On Friday at 1:00pm, OTAN staff and DLAC coaches will host What Is It Like to be Part of DLAC? Graduates of OTAN’s Digital Leadership Academy will discuss everything from the application process and the original projects to the DLAC support process, how projects changed over the course of two years, and the individual as well as program outcomes. Attendees will be encouraged to ask questions – especially those who would like a greater understanding of DLAC or those considering the DLAC application process. You can sign up for this webinar at the California Adult Education Training Calendar.
