Upcoming OTAN Activities to Support Adult Educators – Week of 6/8

Posted on 06/05/2020

OTAN has scheduled a number of online webinars and Office Hours for our adult education colleagues who are continuing to teach and support their learners. (All times below are PDT.)

  • Visit OTAN’s COVID-19 Field Support webpage that we are continually updating with relevant information for teachers, students, and administrators: COVID-19 Field Support

  • OTAN Office Hours provide an opportunity to ask more detailed questions and get support on specific tools to use with students. You can sign up for these OTAN Office Hours at the California Adult Education Training Calendar (and please note our revised schedule)

    • Tuesday, June 9 from 4:00 to 5:00pm
    • Thursday, June 11 from 10:00 to 11:00am
  • On Tuesday at 9:00am, Melinda Holt will present Google Docs. Google Docs is more than just a text editor. Different settings, tools, and add-ons within Google Docs allow users to create interactive documents, share and collaborate with others, complete research from within, voice type, translate, and create drawings. You can sign up for this webinar at the California Adult Education Training Calendar.

  • On Tuesday at 1:00pm, Jeff Goumas will present Building Online Strategies for Today AND Tomorrow. During this webinar, participants will explore the considerations that need to be made to ensure the edtech tool selections they make and strategies for implementing them take into consideration instructional goals and logistical realities, using an implementation plan template to guide their thinking. You can sign up for this webinar at the California Adult Education Training Calendar.

  • On Wednesday at 10:00am, Blair Roy and Susan Coulter will host Office Hours for Maximizing Moodle. The many features and resources available in Moodle can be daunting to new users. Join us to get one-on-one support, help, suggestions and just plain old encouragement in using Moodle with learners. Attending teachers will drive the session with their questions and needs. You can sign up for these Office Hours at the California Adult Education Training Calendar.

  • On Thursday at 11:00am, Cash Clifton will present Let’s Get Gritty. Angela Duckworth and Carol Dweck’s research focuses on the importance of hard work and keeping an open mind to new information. This webinar will explore their research and focus on free interactive learning technologies that encourage students to explore and reflect on their own behaviors and thoughts surrounding learning, persistence, and goal setting. You can sign up for this webinar at the California Adult Education Training Calendar.

  • On Friday at 1:00pm, Jerry Yamashita will present ePortfolio: A Powerful Tool for AE Students and Teachers. This presentation aims to cover the basics of the ePortfolio: what it is and is not, tools to build your first site, and ways you your students can use it inside and outside of the classroom. Real-life examples of ePortfolios will be shown and resources will be shared. You can sign up for this webinar at the California Adult Education Training Calendar.
