Upcoming OTAN Activities to Support Adult Educators – Week of 4/27

OTAN has scheduled a number of online webinars and Office Hours for our adult education colleagues who are continuing to teach and support their learners. (All times below are PDT.)

  • Visit OTAN’s COVID-19 Field Support webpage that we are continually updating with relevant information for teachers, students, and administrators: COVID-19 Field Support

  • OTAN Office Hours provide an opportunity to ask more detailed questions and get support on specific tools to use with students. You can sign up for these OTAN Office Hours at the California Adult Education Training Calendar:

    • Monday, April 27 from 1:00 to 2:00

    • Wednesday, April 29 from 4:00 to 5:00

    • Friday, May 1 from 9:00 to 11:00 (with focus on Moodle – sign up below)

  • On Monday at 2:00pm, Kristi Reyes will present Creating a Learning Module in Canvas. Adult education teachers using the Canvas LMS for remote instruction/distance ed/online teaching will see how to plan a learning unit (Module), add pages, quizzes, external links, and files to a module, and use internal tools and external apps to create a well-planned, easy-to-follow organization of teaching and learning items for students.   • On Tuesday at 9:00am, Melinda Holt will present Applied Digital Skills with Google – Virtual Bootcamp. Google has developed numerous digital skills lessons with step-by-step instructions using videos, templates and Google apps for adult learners who have little or no exposure to technology.   • On Wednesday at 1:00pm, Roz Tolliver will present Using Google Meet and Zoom to Gamify Remote Classes. Learn how to engage your class during online sessions with live Quizizz, Quizlet, and Kahoot games remotely over Zoom or Google Meet, and practice to learn how your students will experience gameplay.   • On Thursday at 10:00am and repeated at 1:30pm, the CDE Adult Education Office will present COAAPs and Citizenship in a Remote Environment. This webinar session will focus on working with students to assess COAAPs and the CASAS Citizenship Interview Test. Join us to learn how you can help students achieve these learning outcomes.   • On Friday at 9:00am, Blair Roy and Susan Coulter will present a special OTAN Office Hour on Maximizing Moodle. Join us to get one-on-one support, help, suggestions and just plain old encouragement in using Moodle with learners. Teachers can ask any questions about Moodle and their courses.   • On Friday at 11:00am, Katrina Tamura will present Google Voice: Stay Connected and Stay Private. In this webinar, participants will learn how to use Google Voice on multiple devices and in the forms of voice messages, texts, and emails. Participants will learn how Google Voice can help to create communication logs and documents issues with students.
