OTAN is excited to present at the upcoming EL Civics Conferences that will take place across California in January, February, and March. The conferences are organized by CASAS and are scheduled as follows:

  • Friday, January 24 – Pasadena City College in Pasadena

  • Friday, February 7 – Charles A Jones Career and Education Center in Sacramento

  • Friday, February 28 – Santiago Canyon College in Orange

  • Friday, March 13 – Silicon Valley Adult Education in San Jose

For more information and to register for one of the conferences, visit this page on the CASAS website: 2020 Annual California EL Civics Conferences

OTAN will be at all four conferences and is planning to present on the following topics:

  • Step Up to 2020: Census, Civics, and Citizenship – Empower your students to use the appropriate technology to meet and exceed the English language and civics tasks associated with the decennial Census, the November election, and the new 100 Citizenship questions.

  • CASAS Assessments for Citizenship Preparation – Leverage the CASAS Life/Work, CIT, or EL Civics COAAPS to help students successfully prepare for the USCIS Naturalization Interview.

  • Digital Resources for IET/IELCE - This workshop will show participants how to take an IET/IELCE lesson plan and integrate a technology component into it based on lesson goals.

  • Technology Tools for EL Civics Workforce Skills – Learn how to incorporate technology into real world workforce preparation and training with EL Civics 243 COAAPs.

  • Digital Resources for EL Civics Assessments – In this workshop, we will look at a variety of tech tools that teachers and students can use to practice and complete COAAP assessments, including submitting written assignments and other tasks, completing forms and quizzes, and creating electronic portfolios.

  • Licensing Your Creations (Copyright & Creative Commons) - You should always license your creations so other teachers and users know exactly how you intend for them to use your work. This session will show you how to apply this special intellectual property licensing using Creative Commons licensing and other tools to make this process simple and fast.

We also look forward to presenting with our partners in adult education, including CASAS, CALPRO, and CDE (California Department of Ed). Please register for one of the upcoming EL Civics Conferences for valuable information and training for your program!
