Top Tips for Financial Literacy Month

Posted on 04/25/2018

April is Financial Literacy Month. There’s still time to share these top tips with your students that they can use all year round. These tips come from the Federal Trade Commission’s Consumer Information.

  • Create a budget to find out how much money you take in and how much you spend.
  • Pay yourself first by using a payroll savings plan.
  • Keep credit card use under control by monitoring your purchases and paying your balance in full each month.
  • Protect your personal information to reduce your risk of identity theft.
  • Order your credit report to make sure the information is correct and dispute any errors.
  • Learn about your options before leasing or financing a new or used vehicle.
  • Comparison shop for home loans and mortgages to save your money!

More information about these tips and other financial literacy topics is available at the FTC Consumer Information website at https://www.consumer.ftc.gov  We also learned about other Consumer Tools available on the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau website  while attending the COABE Annual Conference in Phoenix last month.
