Innovation Library: A Model for Technology Access and Inspiration
Get inspired by the Innovation Library at Evans Community Adult School in Los Angeles! This free, student-centered space offers a welcoming environment to study, receive tech support, and explore emerging technologies.
The Evans Innovation Library features:
- Augmented Reality (AR) books, props, and mobile apps
- Virtual Reality (VR) headsets
- AI tools on iPads
- 3D printers and laser engravers
- E-sports computers
- iPad, Chromebook, and laptop carts
- Interactive smart displays
- Photo editing and multimedia software
- Digital literacy apps and tools
The library has open drop-in hours for students, can be reserved for whole classes, and is accessible to neighboring adult schools in the region. By providing access to cutting-edge tools, the Innovation Library offers equitable opportunities for students to explore, practice, and benefit from innovative technologies.
Spearheaded by OTAN Subject Matter Expert Farzana Cassim, the Evans Innovation Library has grown steadily over several years through the creative use of multiple funding sources. Cassim has created a comprehensive guide that details the journey: from securing support and funding to selecting tools, designing the physical space, engaging staff, and rolling out the program through trainings and classroom integration.
