Across the country, rural communities face persistent barriers to computer ownership. Some of these barriers include higher rates of households in rural areas with no computers, fewer refurbishers and businesses able to donate used devices, and fewer nonprofits to gather devices, distribute them, and help with their use.

Digitunity, in collaboration with Professor Brian Whitacre at Oklahoma State University, has just released a new report spotlighting proven strategies for building sustainable computer ownership ecosystems. You can read the report, Supportive and Sustainable Computer Ecosystems for Rural Communities: Key Takeaways and Actionable Strategies, on this Digitunity webpage. Digitunity is also presenting a webinar on the report on Wednesday, September 10 at 10:00am PT. Here is the page to sign up for this presentation.

If you live and work in a rural California community, please visit OTAN’s Rural Coaching Project page. The project aims to connect rural educators with technology resources and technical support. Because every agency has unique technology challenges, this partnership hopes to align agency tech-related goals with resources. OTAN training and coaches are free to agencies.
