Take Learning on the Road: Beyond Literacy’s Mobile Learning Lab Toolkit
Looking for a creative way to bring digital access and education directly to the communities that need it most? Beyond Literacy, an adult education nonprofit based in Philadelphia, has developed a Mobile Learning Lab—a bus fully equipped with mobile Wi-Fi, laptops, a printer, and a presentation screen. This mobile unit brings vital services to neighborhoods with limited access to internet, technology, and learning resources.
The Mobile Learning Lab offers a wide range of services, including:
- Digital skills training and tech support
- Computer and internet access
- One-on-one academic advising and career coaching
- Job application and class registration assistance
- Referrals to community resources
- Small group literacy workshops and activities
This innovative model helps break down barriers to digital equity by delivering educational and workforce services directly to underserved and underconnected communities.
Bring a Mobile Learning Lab to Your Community
Interested in launching a Mobile Learning Lab of your own? Beyond Literacy has created a free, comprehensive Mobile Learning Lab Toolkit to help other agencies plan, fund, and implement their own mobile learning initiatives. The toolkit includes:
- A step-by-step roadmap for building and sustaining a Mobile Learning Lab
- Insights on equipment, start-up costs, and partnerships
- A cost-benefit analysis
- A sample program flyer, and more!
This is a fantastic opportunity for adult education programs looking to expand their reach and impact.
