More outreach and access are needed in adult education, panel says

EdSource’s roundtable, “Adult education: Overlooked and Underfunded,” Thursday, July 25th, facilitated a conversation with a diverse panel of participants including former adult student, OTAN’s CAEP Honoree 2023 from Salinas Adult School, Francisco Solano. Topics highlighted in the discussion included:

  • Barriers to adult education
  • Raising awareness and marketing
  • Helping communities overcome barriers
  • Broader Benefits of adult education

Other panelists included Dr. Carolyn Zachry, state director and education administrator for adult education at the California Department of Education, John Werner, the executive director of Sequoias Adult Education Consortium, Steve Curiel, principal of Huntington Beach Adult School, and Kathy Locke, ESL instructor in Oakland Unified.
