Are You Ready for the Great California ShakeOut?

The Great California ShakeOut will take place on Thursday, October 17 at 10:17am in California and other locations around the US and the world. This is the 12th anniversary of the ShakeOut, which started in Southern California in 2008.

There is a website devoted to The Great California ShakeOut with numerous resources you can use to prepare your students, staff, and site for an earthquake: Shakeout.org/california. Under Plan Your Drill on the left side of the home page, you can sort the information you need by site (school, library, business, etc.) and region in California. To plan for the day, take a look at the following materials:

• Earthquake Guide for People with Disabilities and Others with Access and Functional Needs

• Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drills YouTube channel

• Promotional materials and other preparedness resources on the Resources page

This is also a great opportunity to encourage everyone to download some safety apps to their phones, in case of emergency:

• Red Cross Mobile Apps
