Please join us for an OTAN webinar on Thursday, October 17 from 3:00 to 4:30. The topic is OERs in Adult Education, presented by Diana Vera-Alba from San Diego CCD. There are many free, customizable, and editable resources for adult educators and their learners. By using Open Educational Resources (OERs) in the classroom and online, teachers and agencies can save money, revise and refresh curriculum, and give learners an opportunity to customize their learning. This webinar will introduce participants to the basics of OERs: what are they, how can you find them, and considerations for determining their quality for use in your classroom. You can sign up for this OTAN webinar on the California Adult Education Professional Development Calendar.

Also join us for an OTAN webinar on Tuesday, October 22 from 4:00 to 5:00. The topic is Easy Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Projects for Language Practice, presented by Barry Bakin from LAUSD Division of Adult and Career Education. Participants will be shown simple project-based activities for language practice and learning using Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. The activities are adaptable for all levels. Language practice using Word, Excel, and PowerPoint serves the dual purpose of language practice (writing and speaking) and learning basic functions of common software programs in use at home, school, and the workplace. You can sign up for this OTAN webinar on the California Adult Education Professional Development Calendar.

Finally, a reminder that the Call for Proposals for OTAN’s Technology and Distance Learning Symposium 2020 is still open! OTAN is looking for presentations that highlight technology, how it enhances the learner experience, extends the classroom to learners, and how technology integration helps adult education programs be more effective and efficient. You are invited to present and share your favorite technology tools and/or best practices with your adult education colleagues. Have you tried a method or practice that involves technology in an adult education class or a program? Share your successes and challenges by presenting at the Symposium! The call for proposals is open until Thursday, October 31, 2019. More information is available on the OTAN TDLS 2020 website.
