WELCOME BACK!
Back-to-school usually means workshops and training for your staff to kick off the school year. OTAN also does its own back-to-school training for the adult education field in a series of news items that orient adult educators to the products and services we offer. Take a look at the six back-to-school news items we published in the last few weeks on OTAN News to learn about creating an account on the OTAN website, face-to-face and online trainings, news items and social media, teaching tools and resources, and more. And share this link with your colleagues and staff!
All of us at OTAN hope that your new school year gets off to a great start! As one of California’s three adult education state leadership projects, we are here to serve you! Contact us at support@otan.us or 916-228-2580.
NEWS YOU CAN USE
Helping Our Students Develop Digital Literacies
“...[W]e need to teach students far more than print literacy skills; we need to help them develop a whole suite of digital literacies to enable them to operate effectively in contemporary culture.”
Getting Started with Technology in the Classroom
What about your colleague in the next classroom or down the hall who doesn’t use technology at all, or only uses it the least amount possible because of school requirements?
Technology has upended our world in many ways, and one of the profound changes it has unleashed is the way in which information is communicated.
With technology, we can step up the level of homework, and, more importantly, add a feedback component to homework so that students are able to gain insight into what they understand and what they need more practice with, outside of the classroom and away from the teacher.
Lesson Planning: Back to Basic
It is important to have a sense of new concepts and instructional practices, so our teaching doesn't get stuck in an old framework that no longer applies to our current reality and doesn't help our students.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT - PLAN AHEAD!
Did you know OTAN provides FREE professional development workshops related to technology for Adult Educators?
With the start of the new 2019-2020 school year, think about scheduling Professional Development for this year. With a wide-variety of technology topics in their arsenal, OTAN training staff will go to any WIOA-funded adult education program in CA that has a computer lab or devices connected to the Internet.
All of OTAN's workshops are provided at no-cost!
Each three-hour session is hands-on - everyone will learn new skills related to technology or using technology that they can use in their adult education class or program. And all of OTAN's face-to-face workshops can be tailored to fit the needs of the requesting program. Select the link to see a list of the current face-to-face workshops and, remember, if you don't see a workshop that "floats your boat" contact OTAN - we'll create what you and your staff need!
OTAN also offers short, online workshops to meet the demands of busy adult educators. Click on the link to see our list of online workshops and webinars: Online Workshops & Webinars
All of OTAN workshops are free! Read more about OTAN Training and select Face-to-Face or Online workshops options to view complete workshop lists including descriptions and prerequisites.
