STATES PUSHING AHEAD WITH #GoOpen AND OPEN EDUCATION

#GoOpen was launched in 2015 by the US Department of Education to encourage school districts and states to transition to the use of openly licensed educational resources. Educators who are a part of the #GoOpen movement believe that OERs save money, boost equity, and promote materials that are timely and culturally relevant. Learn more about the open education movement taking place across the country.

THE CONUNDRUM FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS

Our HSD and HSE adult ed teachers are working hard with students to help them earn their high school diplomas and equivalency certificates to move onto college and post-secondary opportunities. NEW ONLINE RESOURCE TO HELP STUDENTS WITH FIRST AMENDMENT QUESTIONS

In this age of social media, students are coming face-to-face with a whole host of issues related to free speech, privacy, copyright, and freedom of expression. In response to the questions that students have, the Michigan State University College of Law has created the McLellan Online Free Speech Library to provide some guidance on these thorny topics. Read this article  to learn more about this new online resource.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE ADULT EDUCATION LITERACY XPRIZE WINNERS!

Recently, the winners of the Barbara Bush Foundation Adult Literacy XPRIZE were announced. Congratulations go to the two winning teams that will share the $3 million grand prize: Learning Upgrade based in San Diego, and People ForWords based in Dallas, TX. Learn more about the winning teams and next steps for the XPRIZE.

Are you or your staff having problems using or starting to use technology in your adult education program? Use OTAN as a professional development provider!

OTAN offers no-cost, three-hour, hands-on workshops to all WIOA-funded adult education programs. With a wide-variety of technology topics in their arsenal, OTAN training staff will go to any WIOA-funded site with a computer lab to facilitate a hands-on workshop for adult education staff.
