Students use CareerOneStop's online career exploration tools to identify careers that match their interests, skills, and goals. Through self-assessments, career research, and discussion, students explore education requirements, salary information, and job outlooks while developing a personal career plan.

Teacher Tips

  • Encourage students to explore several career options before selecting one.
  • Remind students that assessments suggest possibilities rather than provide definitive answers.
  • Help students connect their existing skills and experiences to potential careers.
  • For ESL learners, preview key career vocabulary before beginning the activity.
  • Pair students who need technology support with more experienced users.

More Ways

For adult learners, the most engaging version of this lesson is to have students:

  • Complete the Interest Assessment.
  • Research one career.
  • Create a simple Career Action Plan.
  • This creates a direct connection between career exploration and real-world educational or employment goals.
