Adaptable Jeopardy Template for Power Point

Activity Description

This is an easy-to-use Jeopardy style PowerPoint template that you might want to try with your students. It is currently set up as a math game for the GED(r), but you can change the Answers and Questions to anything you like using PowerPoint 2003 or later. This was shared at the COABE conference by Mary Conlon from Northside Adult Ed, Minneapolis Public Schools and she has given permission for OTAN to share it.

Preparation

Practice using the game so you know how it works before trying it with students.
Decide if you will play the game as a whole class activity by dividing the class up into two teams or have selected class members play with the rest of the class acting as the audience.
Review the rules of play with the class.

How-To

Download the template from the Web site.
Save the template on your computer.
Use PowerPoint to change the category names, questions, and answers to ESL related categories, questions, and answers. Remember to change the "Final Jeopardy" slide also (it's the last slide). If you keep the Final Jeopardy slide as is, correct the two errors in the question on the template.
Save the revised version with a new name.

Teacher Tips

Double check all of your questions and answers for spelling and grammatical correctness before playing with your class.
Play a clip of a real Jeopardy game and make sure students understand the basic rules of play.

Many sites that offer games can be used to create questions for Jeopardy, or use quiz questions that have one word answers. For lowest levels, put pictures of items on the first slide (the question slide) and then the answer is the word associated with the picture, similar to a flash card.
