Activity Description

This Web site is an online blog/magazine for ESL that contains content which changes daily because the entries are embedded gadgets and Web content that is automatically updated on a regular basic (such as "This Day in History," "Quote of the Day," and "Article of the Day." The Web site can be used with an interactive whiteboard for whole class activities, especially as warm-ups at the beginning of class or fillers at the end of class.

Preparation

  • Preview the Web site to see the different entries. Be warned that some content changes daily, so view the site on the day that you plan to use it in class to see what content is displayed.
  • Ideas for ways to use the site are found in the right sidebar. Choose one and proceed. You may have to scroll quite a way down the screen to find the entry you want to use.
  • If you choose a listening activity, you will need speakers and/or headphones.
  • Make sure that the Web site is not blocked at your school site. The sound files under "Elvis says..." come from a site in Argentina, which may be blocked.

How-To

  1. Select which activity you would like to do in class.
  2. Open the Web site and project the site from the instructors computer to a whiteboard or screen.
  3. Complete the activity with students.
