Students practice body parts vocabulary in an online hangman game created at Quia.com

Preparation

  1. Pre-teach the following prepositions: above, at the end of, in, under, between, below, behind, in the middle of, and inside.
  2. Be prepared to introduce the following body parts vocabulary: head, neck, chin, teeth, shin, knee, elbow, arm, leg, toes, fingers, nails, eyelashes, eyebrows, lungs, calf, ankle, tongue, mouth, forehead, thigh, knee, hip, nose.
  3. Make sure students are familiar with basic computer use and Web site navigation.

How-To

  1. Introduce the following body parts vocabulary: head, neck, chin, teeth, shin, knee, elbow, arm, leg, toes, fingers, nails, eyelashes, eyebrows, lungs, calf, ankle, tongue, mouth, forehead, thigh, knee, hip, nose.
  2. Have students visit the Web Site Example (above).
  3. Explain the rules of hangman.
  4. Tell students the spelling must be correct in order for the answer to be right (if one letter is wrong, the answer is wrong).
  5. Give them time to play the game. Have them tell you their scores to monitor their progress.
  6. Repeat the exercise as needed by refreshing your browser window. Each time you will get a new word.

More Ways

  1. Assign this activity for homework and have students print out the final page showing their score.
  2. This activity could also be done as a class with students on teams. You will need a class projector to use the activity this way.
