Hands on Banking from Wells Fargo offers free, online financial courses that students can do on their own, as well as a Financial Curriculum for Educators that includes lessons and activities with scenarios and discussions. Anyone can download the free PDF instructor guides. Iinstructor guides are centered on financial literacy topics. We will be looking at the unit on Banking Basics [pdf] which covers financial institutions, savings accounts, checking accounts, ATM & debit cards, and using and managing bank accounts.
Preparation
- Preview Web site. Basics of Banking
- Watch interactive student module using the link above to the Web Site Example URL.
- Download the Adults Instructor Guide. (This is a very large PDF file. You can download it one part at a time by selecting each section, such as "Basics of Banking Services" instead of the whole thing all at once.) The Guide goes over what to cover, questions to ask, handouts to use with the online presentation (Web Site Example above)
- Print any necessary handouts.
How-To
- Follow the guide for lesson organization.
- Open discussion of banking services.
- Pre-teach any necessary vocabulary.
- Show online site. Demonstrate how to access audio/sound feature and other controls.
- Guide class through the presentation or assign online lessons for independent learners and discuss class timeline.
- Pair students mixing in good readers with struggling readers so all can access the Web site successfully.
- Have students complete handouts.
- Use Post-test to evaluate progress and revisit any unclear topics.
