My Calendar Maker: Create a Customized Calendar

Activity Description

In this activity, students create and print a customized calendar for the year that identifies important school and work-related dates, birthdays, and other important occasions.

Preparation

Students must have basic computer and Web navigation skills as well as an e-mail address. Before conducting this activity, have students:

  1. Gather the information they would like to include on their calendars (birthdays of friends and family, important dates for work and/or school, etc).
  2. Select 13 images (.jpg format only, less than 6 MB) to include in their calendars (1 for each month plus a cover image)

How-To

Have students...

  1. Create a free account at My Calendar Maker.
  2. Start a new calendar (half-size).
  3. Upload an image for each month and identify important school and work related dates (i.e. CASAS testing, class registration, vacations, etc..), birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, and other important occasions.
  4. Upload a cover image, write a title for the calendar, select a font for the title, and create a name for the calendar file. Select Finish.
  5. Verify the information on the next page and select Generate Calendar.
  6. Open and save the PDF file of the calendar.
  7. Print the calendar by following the Printing Tips.
  8. Bind the calendars at school or take them to a local copy shop for binding.

Teacher Tips

  • Have students write down their login and password information for My Calendar Maker.
  • If your students are not able to complete their calendars in one class session, they can continue another day by logging in to their account by selecting Login located on the upper right corner of the page. Once logged in, a link to their calendar can be found at the bottom of the page.
