Activity Description

This is curriculum to use with parents and children to teach both about financial matters such as budgeting, shopping, spending wisely, and money management. It has video/audio components as well as a fully developed teacher guide, lesson plans and student materials. There are four sections with four lessons in each section.

Preparation

1. The site uses Flash for it's interactivity. Be sure the devices you are using for the activity have a current version of the Flash plug-in installed on them. Be sure everything works as it should on all computers.
2. Download and review the program instructional guide (PDF) including the Introduction and Budgeting.
3. Make copies of any worksheets necessary for the day's lesson(s).

How-To

1. Review the sections one at a time starting with Budgeting.
2. Follow the suggested procedures in the guide for presenting the lesson.
3. Cover vocabulary words used in the lesson and check for understanding/comprehension.
4. Ask discussion questions/brainstorm to get student involvement.
5. Have the parent (and child if available) go through the online, interactive activity on Budgeting.
6. You could also do this as a class and stop to discuss the comprehension questions.
7. If multiple computers are not available, but you have a least one with an Internet connection and a projector, go through the online activity as a class.
8. Continue working through the curriculum as time allows until you have completed all 16 lessons.

• Have students keep a spending journal until the next class, then see if they can find ways to save for future wants.
