Activity Description
Create any type of quiz customized to your specific teaching material in minutes!
Claude.ai's Artifact app will take a simple prompt and/or an uploaded document and create an interactive quiz app (Yes! An actual app!) that you can link to online, download, or embed in your LMS.
Preparation
Check the website to ensure it is not blocked at your site.
Read through the lesson plan.
Run through the complete quiz to ensure that there are no errors.
How-To
First, sign into Claude.ai. You may use your district SSO (if permitted) or just use any email. The app will send an access code to that email address which you use to enter Claude.
On the left edge menu, click on the Artifact icon.
Claude gives a few options, like creating an app, website, games, etc., but I recommend selecting "Start from scratch".
In the prompt area, click the plus sign ("+") and upload the document for which you'd like Claude to create a quiz, like an article or a vocabulary list. (Note: Be aware of copyright laws when uploading articles.)
Then, type your instructions on how you want Claude to create the quiz. I recommend using the term 'interactive' in your prompt. Your prompt can be simple, such as "Create a 10 question interactive quiz using the article that I've attached," or you can be much more specific, like:
(Note: if your LMS allows for SCORM packages, you can embed the Claude-generated app right into your LMS. There are other ways to have it generate your app. See "More Ways" below.)
Claude will automatically generate a plan for your artifact prior to generating the app. This is so you can review what the AI will do and make any corrections or tweaks before it creates it. Here's what Claude gave me:
I had a couple of corrections which I told it: "I like the topics but please lower the reading level at least one level down."
Claude checked in one final time:
Once I was satisfied, I asked Claude to create the app.
Again, always test the app prior to distributing it to your students. If any problems arise, just ask Claude to help to fix it.
More Ways
Claude's default option for formatting the app is set to HTML format. That's the computer language that most apps use.
Once it has generated the app, you have many options:
The default setting is for Claude to prompt you to publish the app. Claude will publish the app to the web and provide a unique link to the app which you can copy and provide to your students, publish in your LMS, create a QR code from, etc. Note, this will be a stand-alone app not connected to any specific website.
You can also download the app as an HTML file which will allow you and students to open the app on their device even if they're not connected to the internet.
In addition, you can prompt Claude to save the app in pretty much any other format, like a SCORM zip file or in HTML code (if you'd like to manually embed it onto a website.)
In addition, you could ask Claude to generate it as a PDF or Word document. These won't be interactive, most likely.
Since Claude is an AI bot, you could also ask it about other formats and it will help you to figure out how to make it work.
You'll want to make sure that the product which it generates is fully functionable prior to distributing it to your class. I had it generate a pdf but the file wouldn't read. The great thing is that Claude can troubleshoot any problems that arise. You just have to ask!

Warm-up
Engagement Enhancement Extension
(Note: This is a lesson plan for a high-intermediate or above ESL class.)
Students will link to a Padlet page via a QR code or a link in our LMS which will have a board divided into two.
One half will be titled, "Polite Interent Behavior" with an example underneath which reads, "Complementing someone on social media, like Instagram." The other half will be titled, "Impolite Interent Behavior" with an example underneath which reads, "Writing bad things about someone on social media, like Instagram."
Students will be invited to add their thoughts in both categories.
Afterward, we'll briefly discuss some of the posts to see whether the students agree or disagree with others' opinions.
Introduction
Engagement
Tell the students, "Today, you'll be reading an article on netiquette and taking a quiz to demonstrate your understanding. Does anyone know what netiquette is?"
Presentation
Engagement Enhancement
Show the students how to navigate to a page in their LMS* which has the artifact quiz that Claude generated. Go over the instructions. You may even choose to do the first question together as a class so they can see how it works.
Also, recommend that they read the question prior to reading the text on the quiz pages.
*Please refer to the 'How-to' section of this article to see the other options for sharing the artifact quiz with your students.
Practice
Engagement Enhancement
You can let students work individually, in pairs, or in small groups. They will read the text and take the quiz. As the app is a standalone app, you may want to monitor or collect the final scores manually.
If they are confused or have a question, they can ask their classmates. If the classmates can't help, they can call you.
Evaluation
Engagement Enhancement Extension
The app will automatically generate a final score.
If the students have any errors, they can choose to take the quiz again.
Application
Engagement Enhancement Extension
Now, go over the rules listed in the quiz and compare them with the answers that the students wrote in the warm-up Padlet activity.
If there are any rules from the quiz that are not on the Padlet board, assign students to add them. Also, discuss any discrepancies between what the students wrote and what's listed in the quiz.
In addition, you could create an extra Claude artifact quiz in which Claude generates sample text from the internet (like a social media post or a product review) or examples of actions that someone takes on the internet (like posting inappropriate emojis or rude email messages) and the students have to decide whether that is good or bad netiquette and why. If it's bad netiquette, Claude could prompt "How should someone react to that bad netiquette?" You could assign this for homework or do it as an in-class activity.
