Activity Description

YMCA FlyerStudents can use Canva to design community resource flyers and share them with their classmates.

Preparation

  1. Check the website to ensure it is not blocked at your site.
  2. Read through the lesson plan.
  3. Print and make copies of any handouts.

How-To

You can download this basic how-to document which guides you through the basic steps of setting up a free Canva educator account as well as a general overview on using Canva to design a flyer.

Although the app is extremely user-friendly and easy to use, Canva also has a very helpful AI-driven help page where you can ask any questions about how to use Canva.

Teacher Tips

It's always a good idea to try the app yourself prior to asking your students to use it so you are familiar with the tools and capabilities of the app.

We also recommend that before using the app in class, to ask a student to sign in to Canva with their student SSO account to see what tools and elements are available and not available to them as your educator account might have more access to tools and elements than theirs does.

More Ways

Canva can be used to create almost anything visual, like posters, presentations, videos, webpages, etc. There are hundreds of free templates that you can use for class projects, all of which can be shared.
