Fun Icebreaker: Padlet AI Art Studio

Activity Description
Preparation
- Check the website to ensure it is not blocked at your site.
- Read through the lesson plan.
- Make a free account at Padlet.
- Practice posting to the wall you create on a phone, if students will be posting via their cell phones.
How-To
- Log in at Padlet.
- Select "Make" at the top of the user dashboard.
- Scroll to find "AI Recipes" and then "view all."
- Select "AI Art Studio."
- Add a title (such as Icebreaker Introductions) and description. The description can be instructions, such as "Make an AI image that shows your favorite animal in your favorite place doing your favorite activity while eating your favorite food. Include the flag of your country of birth."
- Post your own AI image. Select "Post" on the wall you created.
- In "Artwork Title" add your name.
- Select the box that says "AI image."
- Enter an image prompt to match the description (e.g., a cat in a swimming pool eating tacos while reading a book. add a flag of (country)."
- Padlet will provide four AI images. Select the preffered image and then "Publish."
- Select the gear icon in the top right for appearance and posting options: Make sure "moderation" is set so that anyone can post.
- Select "Share" in the top right for sharing options: Make sure to select "Writer" for "Visitors with a link." Copy the link to share with students or get the embed code to paste into the code editor in an LMS (Canvas, for example). You can also select the QR code to dowload, project, or pin to the header of the wall.
Teacher Tips
Have students write their image prompt first before posting.
Model as many times as needed and include either a video tutorial or written instructions as students post.

Other icebreakers on Padlet include "Map" and "Two Truths and a Lie." Just select one and follow the on-screen tutorial for set-up.
Note that with a free account, you have only three walls. However, in the "Share" options, you can export walls as images or PDFs or download files before deleting or remaking and deleting posts to re-use (see remake in top right).
