Activity Description

Change Agent Home Page

Engage your students to not only improve their reading skills, but participate in advocacy for themselves and others with these incredible and powerful articles written for adult students by adult students.

Preparation

  1. Check the website to ensure it is not blocked at your site.
  2. Read through the lesson plan.
  3. Print and make copies of any handouts.

How-To

Although Change Agent does offer free lesson packets, they do rely on subscriptions to exist, so if you find these articles effective and useful, you may consider becoming a subscriber.

To access the free lesson packets, click on the blue link above, peruse the list, and click on the download link to that packet. It will download a pdf to your device. The packet comes with multiple articles on the subject arranged from low level (3rd grade reading level) all the way up to advanced level (10th grade reading level).

You can use an app like Adobe to export a jpeg or png image file of the article(s) that you'd like to use for your class.

Change Agent has a wonderful Teaching Tips page with lots of ideas for activities that you can do with the articles.

Teacher Tips

It's best to pre-read the articles beforehand to see what vocabulary may be challenging for your students as well as any background knowledge that your students may lack prior to presenting the article in class. You could use AI to generate vocabulary lists and easy-to-read background info to give to your students prior to the reading activity.

More Ways

As with any articles, there are endless ways to extend learning beyond the articles. See the attached lesson plan for some ideas.
