Activity Description
Educators can use Mentimeter to create fun and engaging interactive lessons. In this example, a Mentimeter will be used to introduce a job hunting unit to an Intermediate Low ESL class.
Check the website to ensure it is not blocked at your site.
Read through the lesson plan.
Print and make copies of any handouts.
How-To
Setting up a Mentimeter presentation is a snap. They offer a free basic plan which includes unlimited Mentimeter presentations and up to 50 participants per month (see "Other conditions of terms of use" below for more details), and the app is very user friendly.
You can create unlimited interactive presentations, quizzes, and surveys featuring word clouds, multiple-choice polls, rankings, and Q&A sessions.
In addition, it has a built in AI assistant to help you create the presentation. You simply put in a prompt explaining what kind of presentation you'd like and the interactive activities that you want, and the AI bot will generate a presentation. Then, you can edit it in any way you'd like.
Once your presentation is ready, you simply start the presentation. Mentimeter automatically embeds a self-generated QR code and a code that participants can simply type in on Menti.com. The QR code and numerical codes are presented right on the screen.
For those new to the app, there is aMentimeter How-to page with easy-to-follow tutorials on using the app.

Teacher Tips
It's always good to experiment with a test presentation to try out the tools before creating one for actual use.

Warm-up
Engagement
In this example, my class is about to begin a unit on job hunting and resumes.
As a warm-up, I'll begin with a background knowledge check by creating a word cloud. The question is, "What word do you think of when you hear 'job hunting'?"
Projecting in full screen, we can all see the responses live.
Introduction
Engagement
Create an agenda slide and project it.
Presentation
Engagement Enhancement
Create a presentation slide and project it. It could include information about the topics and activities that you'll be engaging students in.
Practice
Engagement Enhancement Extension
This is where you present the various interactive activities. In my example, I have a poll about the hardest part of job hunting, a quiz on job hunting grammar, and a ranking on job search skills.
Evaluation
Engagement Enhancement Extension
You can create a free-form slide to allow students to type whatever they're thinking.
In my example, I created a free-form slide for the prompt, "Name one thing that you've learned from this presentation."
You can also create a Q & A slide to allow students to ask questions about what additional information they'd like to know.
Application
Engagement Enhancement Extension
You can use the results from all of these interactive activities to create or tweak the lesson that you've created.
You can also have students find a job ad online, in a newspaper, or in their neighborhood and do a word cloud the next day to see what kind of job ads they found.
