By the end of the lesson, students will be able to correctly define and use 15 new healthcare-related terms in context with 90% accuracy using Quizlet.

Preparation

  1. Prepare devices with internet access (laptops, tablets, smartphones)
  2. Have pre-created Quizlet set with vocabulary terms
  3. Ensure your projector or smartboard  is working for demonstration and Quizlet Live

How-To

Assign students to review the Quizlet set for 10 minutes daily and challenge them to improve their scores on the “Test” feature.

Lesson Plan

Warm-up

Ask students to brainstorm healthcare-related words they already know (e.g., “hypertension,” “diabetes,” “stethoscope”). Write their responses on the board to activate prior knoweldge.  

Introduction

Explain the Importance of why understanding healthcare vocabulary is crucial in their field (e.g., for communication with patients and colleagues, interpreting medical charts).  Share that today’s session will focus on mastering essential terms using Quizlet. Show students how to access and use Quizlet on their devices (laptops, tablets, or smartphones).
Highlight features like flashcards, matching games, and tests.

Presentation
  • Introduce the 15 new healthcare vocabulary terms (e.g., “tachycardia,” “asepsis,” “bronchitis”).
  • Provide a brief definition and example sentence for each term.
  • Share link or QR code to pre-created Quizlet set for students to join Quizlet. 
  • Model Usage bu using the  “Learn” feature in Quizlet to demonstrate how the tool reinforces definitions through repetition.
Practice
  • Student Activity: Have students  work independently or in pairs using the Quizlet set.
    Rotate through activities such as flashcards, matching games, and the “Write” feature to reinforce their understanding.
  • Interactive Check: Facilitate a live Quizlet game (e.g., Quizlet Live) where students compete to match terms with definitions in real time.
Evaluation
  • Use Quizlet’s “Test” feature to administer a 10-question quiz. Include multiple-choice, true/false, and short-answer questions. Students submit their scores for immediate feedback.
Application
  • Divide students into small groups. Assign each group a scenario where they must use 3-4 of the vocabulary terms in context (e.g., explaining a diagnosis to a patient or describing symptoms).
    Groups share their responses with the class.
