Superpages: Beginning Computer Search Skills

Adults with low-level reading skills now can learn basic computer and Internet search skills while they practice reading and writing using a free online course developed by the partnership of ProLiteracy and Superpages.comĀ® The course, developed by ProLiteracy, highlights features of Superpages.comĀ®. The course is designed for adults with a fifth grade reading level and who are familiar with computers and the Internet. The site has audio assist. Use the Example Document to assign any or all lessons.

Preparation

  • Preview site and decide what to assign.
  • If you want to use the student workbook, you will need to print the appropriate pages. Print the Example Document 1 for student use.

How-To

  1. Introduce topic - Brainstorm with class "How can we use the computer?"
  2. Brainstorm and discuss difficulties in finding information and how the Internet can help.
  3. Preview the site.
  4. Demonstrate how to use the site.
  5. Assign different lessons to each group. Hand out Example Document 1.
  6. Establish a timeline for presentations.
  7. Presentations can be oral and/or written.
