Activity Description

Use the Web Site Example link (above) when teaching simple past tense verbs. There are clip art images of verbs with audio files. Select the arrow play button (not the Play button) to hear the verbs said in past tense.

Preparation

Teach the form, function, and use of past tense before using the site.
Make sure the site is not blocked at your school.
After selecting a topic, scroll down the page to see the exercises.

How-To

You can use the Web page as a whole class, listen-and-repeat activity, or can have students use it independently for listening and pronunciation practice.
You will need to scroll down the page to see most of the activities and content, as the top of the page is more devoted to advertising.
If you pause with the mouse icon over the image and wait for a moment, you will see a text box with the vocabulary word (using the Internet Explorer browser).
Select the arrow play button (not the Play button) under each image to hear the sound.
Scroll down to view accompanying exercises under the vocabulary words. For example, for simple past tense, there are printable vocabulary [www] and interactive writing worksheets [www], matching activities [www], word searches [www], and hangman [www]. There are also explanations for Spanish speakers.

Teacher Tips

There is a lot of advertising for jobs for teachers in Madrid at this site, so steer clear of them and focus on the activities.
Go through the online interactive exercises first yourself before using them with students.
Look for any spellings/explanations with which you disagree.
The pronunciation on the audio is a bit garbled on a few words, but most are good.
This resource is especially useful for Spanish speakers.
The hints (?) on thw writing workseets are in Spanish (for some reason unknown to us).
