Lesson Plan
Review family relationships such as mother, father, sister, brother etc. Divide students into small groups and ask each group to write 5 questions that they could ask someone about their family. For example, what does your father do.
Tell students that you will be practicing listening and speaking about families.
For students who need a transcript, it can be found here.
Review with students some of the questions that they may ask when they meet someone for the first time. Tell the students to listen to the audio of two people meeting each other. They should write down the questions that Carl asks.
Answers:
- Are you the oldest?
- What do your parents do?
- How about your mother?
- What kind of store?
Divide the students into pairs or groups. Have them write the four questions on a paper and tell them to listen for the answer.
- No, I am the second oldest.
- My father is a taxi driver.
- My mother runs a family store.
- It is a food store.
Play the video a third time and have students fill in the blanks on this document.
Divide the students into pairs and have them practice the dialog.
Students should do the activities on the website for evaluation. There is a comprehension quiz, vocabulary practice with mixed up sentences, multiple choice questions, sentence and vocabulary matching and a gap-fill exercise.
Have students create a conversation with their partner introducing their families.
