Activity Description

Make a 30-second online video/slideshow about a career goal using images, video clips, music, and text.

Preparation

• Make sure that the site is not blocked at your school.
• Practice using the site before you have students use it.
• Make a sample project so that students can better understand what is expected of them.

How-To

Students will use the Internet to find information (job title, duties, pay, outlook, etc.) about a career they are interested in. In groups or pairs they will work collaboratively to gather images or take pictures and short video clips, or make video for the video montage they will create using the site.

After students have created their video presentation on Animoto, they will share with the instructor and make mini-presentations to the class. If classroom presentations are being made, you will need a projector and a screen for class viewing.

With the Animoto iPhone app users are able to create, share, and watch their videos, and share their videos via e-mail, text, Facebook, Twitter, or save to their Camera Roll.

More Ways

• For vocabulary or idioms, instructors can make short, visual slideshows to help students remember definitions or can assign one term or item on a vocabulary list to individual students or small groups to make slideshows that can be posted on a Web page as a video dictionary.
• Students can introduce themselves to classmates with an "About Me" slideshow or a "Who am I?" project in which students make slideshows about themselves or others (historical figures, famous inventors, celebrities) and classmates guess their identities.
• Use the site for a "Me in the Future" project in which students explain plans and goals for the future, create a school tour, make a slideshow to celebrate a graduation or commemorate the end of a class or class session, a music video, or a vacation show-and-tell or a dream vacation.
• Other project ideas: autobiography, biography, public service announcements.
