Spelling - A Key to Good Communication

Activity Description

This site offers lessons and exercises that address some of the basic rules of spelling. These are totally printable, so you can use them in non-computerized settings.

Preparation

  1. Visit the Example Web Site link above , then select and print one of the lessons. You can use the Personal Word List - Example Document (above) for student use. If you plan to use it, print copies for the students or send it to them digitally.
  2. Create a list of words to use as part of a group exercise on the topic you chose.
  3. Select and print the practice exercise in Section 2 - Practice Exercisesthat coordinates with the lesson in Section 1.
  4. Print the Answer key if you need to. They are found in Section 3.

How-To

  1. Review the rules for the types of words you are teaching. You can use the lesson as a guide and project it for all to see while covering those rules in class.
  2. As a class, go through your list of words with various students using the word appropriately.
  3. Once they have grasped the concept, assign the associated Practice worksheet for students to complete on their own then go over the answers as a group.
