EconEdLink A Penny Saved

In this lesson, students will explore savings by reading a comic book and discussing their reading. The comic book has many useful lessons. Start with the basics, page 1-8. 

Preparation

  1. Go the the teacher's lesson plan (see the Web Site Example above), select View Student Version (right side of the page) and Print this lesson for your students (button is also on the right).
  2. Print the comic book A Penny Saved (pdf) for each student.
  3. Print the "A Penny Saved guided reading" (pdf) for each student.
  4. Review the teacher's lesson plan.
  5. Be sure students are familiar with basic computer and Web site navigation.

How-To

  1. Distribute copies of the student version of the lesson, the comic book, and guided reading.
  2. Follow the lesson plan outlined in the Web Site Example shown above.

Teacher Tips

  • If you do not have Microsoft Excel, you can download Open Office for free or use Google Docs spreadsheet program.
